The Unknown: The Blue Line.
I think that now is as good a time as any to acknowledge today’s date in history: June 9-10, 1998, which has provided us with such a rich context in which to produce this text.

Top headlines at this hour:

POLICE IN FRANCE USE TEAR GAS ON DRUNKEN WORLD CUP FANS

OAU LEADERS TO SEND MISSION TO ETHIOPIA, ERITREA

COHEN SAYS NATO TO EXAMINE KOSOVO MILITARY OPTIONS QUICKLY

CLINTON PLEDGES TO SUPPORT KIM’s ATTEMPTS AT REFORMS.

And it stormed in Cincinnati, and then subsided.

Thank you, June 9-10, 1998.

Dirk, anything to add?

On June 8, 1998 the Cincinnati papers carried the story that THE U.S. MILITARY USED NERVE GAS IN MISSIONS TO TRACK DOWN AND KILL DEFECTORS DURING THE VIETNAM WAR.

And we thought the moral abyss of Vietnam couldn’t get any deeper. I’m ashamed to be an American.
