  You see, we were all very serious and ambitious creative writers. And we had seen the violence that is beer, we had seen that firsthand, and we had lined up to order pitchers of that violence. And we had done research. Lots. And we weren’t about to start citing sources. We were creative writers. And we lied and stole and we called each other at home and demanded beer or text or both, naming brands and degrees Fahrenheit, and our expectations in terms of plot and point of view.

We had stopped looking for ironies when we realized that we were in fact living them.
