Gaddis is seventy-something and he beat all of us at pool. Which
was kind of embarrassing, since he was also a better writer; we figured
we could
at least win at pool. We got him to talk about
the book he’s working on now—a nonfiction piece about jukeboxes.
He said he’d give me a galley proof if we could beat him at eight
ball, all working together, just as we had when working on our hypertext
and our anthology. Gaddis won, I never
saw his galleys, and he got a copy of The Unknown gratis.
