NEWSPOEM 13 JANUARY 1996 The newspapers today were peeling wallpaper I stared at as I ate breakfast. I went back to bed and pulled a newspaper up to my nose and stared at the ceiling. Midafternoon I pulled the newspapers closed across the window to block out the incoming sun. Evening I took a shower and wandered out to the kitchen wearing only a damp newspaper. Night I lay on the thick newspaper in front of the fire. It was comforting. |
