Lost...

John Searles

Sixteen years old and nowhere to go
everybody in the neighborhood calling her a ho'

Pregnant at such a young age,
now she's trapped like a lioness in her cage.
She no longer smiles anymore,
her family has slammed the door,
no one to run to, nowhere to turn,
parents saying a lesson must be learned,
so-called friends condemn her to be a whore,
while the baby daddy has run out the door.

She contemplates abortion, considers suicide,
she knows nobody is going to stand by her side,
she doesn't know what else to do,
she even has to drop out of school.
She is left to all this on her own,
She is sad and so all alone.
Suddenly she breaks down to cry out a prayer
but she wonders if God even cares?

Over and over again,
she falls to her knees looking for a friend,
answers she searches for in the skies,
questions left unanswered with lies,
she's pregnant with her first child,
all her emotions are left running wild.

She believes,
just maybe she can make it with her new baby,
no longer is life all about a party,
she is determined to make it on her own,
to reap what she has sown.

Over and over again,
she falls to her knees looking for a friend,
answers she searches for in the skies,
questions answered with deep cries,
begging to know what is the cost,
in the game of love she has lost.

I wish there was a happy ending to this story,
but for her it will be a long road without her family.
She is lost in a society that doesn't care,
how deep the pain will shed and tear.
Many days she will sit in a corner and cry,
many nights she will sing her baby a sweet lullaby,
many times it will be hard to make it through her pain,
for a long time her heart will remain to be stained.

When it's all said and done,
her daughter may have been made during a time of fun,
but the story is still one that is ever so sad,
told in a society that has gone terribly bad.
On her journey she has become lost,
family, love, and trust
will ultimately be the final cost.
