John Franklin Bardin. The Deadly Percheron. 1968.
My 2004-05 reading coach Michael Gizzi dug this lurid paperback roughly as tattered as me out of the Waldrops library and submitted it for my inspection. This is the story of a psychologist who meets a strange client and is quickly over his head in a bizarre plot, progressively selective amnesia, a femme fatale, and a dwarf. The plot begins grippingly and there follow a few strikingly well-done chapters (IV: Non Compos Mentis) and then an unexpected but contrived finale in a funhouse. This puzzle plot may be worthy of study but not necessarily finishing. I am grateful for the opportunity to read something obscure once. |
